Hoboken Train Terminal to Pier 11 Service to Return Soon
To Our Customers:
All ferry service into Pier 11 was affected by the significant damage done to the Pier 11 facilities by Hurricane Sandy. The terminal building was largely destroyed and will have to be rebuilt. Electric power from the main grid was lost and has still not been restored. As a result, Pier 11 is running on generator power which has had its own share of problems. Without power, use of the pier is limited to the two southern slips; the three barges on the northern side (which have five slips among them) require elelctic power to operater the ramps that connect the barges to our vessels. We hope that the intermitten problem with the generators is now mostly behind us but it won't be fully addresses until the pier is once again connected to the power grid. To compound the problems even further, there are dozens of buildings in the Pier 11 vicinity that are still uninhabitable. Estimates for repairs to some buildings range from weeks to months. Pedestrian access to the piers is hindered by all of this activity.
All of our routes to Pier 11 are now on their normal pre-storm schedule, except for service from Hoboken Train Terminal. We expect to restore service from Hoboken Train Terminal to Pier 11 once the Pier 11 facility can accommodate the additional vessels and the number of trains into Hoboken terminal increases. In the meantime, service to Pier 11 is available from our Liberty Harbor facility which has a 1,000 car parking lot and is accessible from the Marin Boulevard Light Rail stop. Pier 11 is also serviced by routes from Paulus Hook, Jersey City and Port Imperial, Weehawken. Although the Pier 11 ticket office and waiting area may be out of service for months to come, we are bringing in a temporary ticket booth to the site for our personnel to operate within. We hope that this will be completed and operating before Monday and that we can resume ticket sales on site.
We thank you for your understanding and patience and we hope to have all services restored as soon as we can.
Thank you,
NY Waterway
