Greenpoint's Red Star will once again host the Best Wings in Brooklyn competition, this time in association with the East River Ferry. On Saturday, February 25th dozens of the borough's best purveyors will "throw their wing into the ring" in pursuit of 365 days of bragging rights. Kai P. was caught on camera snuggling up to one of the "Love Bears" on the East River Ferry on Valentines Day and immediately issued the above statement to his significant other, in hopes of avoiding a confrontation when he arrived home in Williamsburg. Fortunately for Kai, (who is actually Kai Peter Stabell) his photo was chosen as the winning entry in the East River Ferry's recent Valentine's Day photo contest, so to help "patch things up at home" he can now offer a romantic dinner out. Kai received dinner for two at Rosarito Fish Shack, complete with a champagne toast. We're sure Eddie Fontana and the gang at Rosarito will make it a memorable evening. When asked about the East River Ferry, Kai offered the following, "We've been riding the ferry since we moved here last summer and I purchased my first monthly pass in November. What is there not to love about a commute where people are pleasant? Every day I arrive at the office feeling like a yachtsman - love it!" Thanks Kai. We're happy that people feel that way about us. We're thrilled to be part of the fabric of Brooklyn and look forward to an even more active and enjoyable year in 2012. We'd like to thank Rosarito Fish Shack once again and recommend that, if you're in the neighborhood of N.7th & Wythe, you stop in and say HI.
Before we completely forget about the Giants Super Bowl victory, due to all the recent excitement regarding Linsanity, we'd like to congratulate the East River Ferry winner of the Super Bowl XLVI contest. It was Jennifer Artale of Greenpoint. Jennifer, who has been a local resident since 2001 is a regular ferry traveler, mostly using the India Street terminal, because it's so close to where she lives with her husband and three crazy cats. When contacted about her winning, Jennifer told us, "I've used the ferry from the very beginning. It's been a wonderful experience having the ferry. You can't beat the views and the convenience. I recommend it now to anyone that is visiting NYC." However it appears that Jennifer isn't the only winner here. It seems that her (loving) husband bought her an iPad2 a couple of months ago as a gift... so guess who gets this one. (Early birthday gift perhaps?) Congratulations to Jennifer and thanks again to everyone who played... and a special thanks to everyone who has supported the East River Ferry since we started operations last June. We're looking forward to some great things in 2012. In conclusion, Jennifer said, "The East River Ferry are Giants in my book." Is that too corny? You bet it is, but we'll take the compliment anyhow.
Out of the hundreds of entrees we received, only one person was skilled (lucky!) enough to come up with the final score of the Super Bowl...thus eliminating the need to go deeper into the tie-breaker questions. Thanks to his accurate prediction (guess!) Gerald Dillon, of Jackson Heights is now the proud owner of an iPad2 compliments of NY Waterway & The East River Ferry. NOTE: Gerald won the NY Waterway contest. The winner of the East River Ferry contest is yet to be announced, pending verification. Gerald is a regular traveler on the ferry route from Long Island City/Hunters Point to Pier 11/Wall St. He refers to the ferry as....more

Since it launched in June, the East River Ferry, which currently stops at seven sites along the Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens riverfront, has transported nearly 600,000 people. That is 200,000 more riders than the city anticipated in the ferry’s entire first year. And yet, hopping aboard one of the ferries, you feel as if you’ve chartered your own private pleasurecraft.. . . more
