Ferry Service Restored at Hoboken/NJ Transit Terminal

FERRY SERVICE RESTORED AT HOBOKEN/NJ TRANSIT TERMINAL

NY Waterway Ferries Will Travel to World Financial Center Only

NY Waterway has resumed ferry service at the Hoboken/NJ TRANSIT Terminal. While the historic Erie Lackawanna Ferry Terminal suffered significant water damage from Hurricane Sandy, federal, state, and local officials were instrumental in allowing ferry service to resume at this location.

Due to limitations on mass transit as a result of Hurricane Sandy, NY Waterway is anticipating increased ridership at its Hoboken/NJ TRANSIT Terminal location for the foreseeable future. In order to accommodate this, ferries from the Hoboken terminal will only be running to World Financial Center in Manhattan’s Battery Park. This will allow NY Waterway to carry a significantly larger number of commuters safely and quickly by reducing the travel time to New York City and back.

Customers who normally take the NY Waterway ferries from Hoboken/NJ TRANSIT Terminal to Wall Street/Pier 11 can travel by foot to that location from World Financial Center or can take a NY Waterway ferry directly to Wall Street/Pier 11 from Liberty Harbor and Paulus Hook piers, both in Jersey City.

“The return of service to the Hoboken/NJ TRANSIT ferry terminal was made possible through the dedication and tireless work of federal agencies like FEMA, Navy, Army Corp, state and local officials, as well as that of our own NY Waterway staff,” said Paul Goodman, CEO of Billybey Ferry Company, which operates the ferries to the Hoboken/NJ TRANSIT Terminal. “This represents a significant step in providing even more transportation options for New Jersey commuters as they head to work in the coming week.”

NY Waterway customers are encouraged to download the free NY Waterway ferry app, available from www.nywaterway.com, the Android Marketplace and the iTunes App Store, and will work with all Android and Apple iOS-run smartphones as well as they iPad. The app, unlike others, allows NY Waterway customers to instantly purchase and use a ticket on their mobile devices, thus avoiding ticketing lines.
